Looking Back on My First-Ever Flight and Watching the Himalayas

I just realized that it has already been eight months since my first-ever flight, but I still remember it like it happened yesterday.

Before that trip, I had already traveled to India 11 times, exploring 12 cities across 7 states. But there was one thing all those journeys had in common: I had never traveled by air. Every trip was either by road or by train.

So, when I booked my flight to Nepal, it was going to be a completely new experience for me. It was January 2026, and I was flying from Dhaka to Kathmandu to attend WordCamp Nepal 2026. Since it was my first flight, I was pretty nervous.

I had no idea what to expect at the airport. I kept wondering if I would find the right gate, complete everything correctly, or somehow miss my flight. Thankfully, everything went smoothly.

The flight from Dhaka to Kathmandu took around 1 hour and 45 minutes. When the plane started taking off, it felt really strange. For a moment, it felt like my stomach had been left behind on the runway!

But once we were in the air, the nervousness slowly disappeared. Then came the best part. I looked out of the window and saw the Himalayas.

Seeing those huge mountains from above was something I will never forget. I had seen photos of the Himalayas many times, but seeing them with my own eyes from a plane was completely different. It was quiet, beautiful, and honestly, breathtaking.

And this wasn’t just any trip. I was traveling to attend WordCamp Nepal 2026, held on January 23–24 in Butwal.

The event brought together more than 660 attendees and 31 speakers from different places. I got to meet developers, designers, contributors, and WordPress enthusiasts from across the community.

Looking back now, eight months later, the whole experience still feels a little unreal.

Sometimes I scroll through the photos from that trip and smile. My first flight, my first time seeing the Himalayas from the sky, and my experience at WordCamp Nepal all came together to create a memory I don’t think I’ll ever forget.

I’ve traveled quite a bit by road, but Nepal gave me a completely different kind of travel memory. What started with nervousness at the airport turned into one of the most memorable journeys I’ve had.

And I’m curious, how was your first flight? Were you nervous, excited, or a little bit of both? I’d love to hear your story!
